Heidi

Remembering Heidi – The First Heart of Our Sanctuary**

Heidi holds a special place in our hearts as the very first elephant we rescued at the sanctuary. At 56 years old, she came to us from a logging camp where she endured years of hard labor, working relentlessly despite suffering from a congenital disease. Her earlier life was a testament to her strength, as she carried heavy loads while exhibiting a remarkable spirit—showing high maturity, a quiet demeanor, and an inherently good mood. Heidi’s polite and gentle nature won the affection of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Heidi was not just our first rescue; she was the very reason this sanctuary was born. Driven by our desire to help her find a better life, we established this sanctuary as a safe haven for elephants like her. Her story and spirit inspired our mission, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to support her journey toward healing.

In her time with us, we provided Heidi with the best possible care. Our dedicated veterinary team worked diligently to treat her condition, while our kind mahouts ensured she received the love and attention she truly deserved. Despite our efforts, we are heartbroken to share that Heidi passed away at the hospital, surrounded by those who loved her.

However, it brings us comfort to know that in her final years, Heidi experienced joy and peace. Over the five wonderful years she spent with us, she thrived in a loving environment, enjoying nourishing meals and the companionship of her fellow elephants.

Though Heidi’s journey has come to an end, her legacy lives on in the sanctuary, reminding us of the importance of compassion, care, and the healing that comes from a nurturing environment. We are eternally grateful for the time we shared with her, and we will always cherish the joy she brought into our lives.

As we remember Heidi, we invite visitors to come and learn about her journey and the significant impact she had on our sanctuary. Together, let us honor her memory by continuing our mission to rescue and rehabilitate elephants in need
