  At Maerim Elephant Sanctuary, elephants roam freely in their natural jungle habitat, cared for with compassion and without riding, shows, or restraints. Our sanctuary, founded by Busabong “Pui” Kuetkong, was built on a deep love for Thailand’s gentle giants and a mission to ensure that rescued elephants can live free from pain, exploitation, and fear.

  Pui witnessed the harsh realities elephants faced in captivity from logging camps to elephant trekking in Chiang Mai and dedicated herself to creating a place where they could heal and rediscover their natural behaviors. What began humbly has grown into a true refuge and a model for ethical elephant care worldwide, inspiring thousands of visitors to learn about conservation and respect.

 We invite international travelers, local visitors, and families to experience elephants in a profoundly different way. There are no hooks, no chains, and no tricks. Instead, guests engage in genuine, hands-on interactions such as walking alongside elephants in the forest, feeding them fruit, or sharing a playful mud bath.
